FAQ
Short answers. None of this is personalised advice.
What is a step up SIP calculator?
It is a tool that projects mutual-fund SIP wealth if your monthly instalment rises each year, and compares that path with a regular SIP that stays flat. StepSip does the maths in your browser.
How is the monthly return calculated?
The yearly rate you type is divided by 12. Each month the calculator adds that month’s SIP and then multiplies the corpus by (1 + monthly rate). It does not use daily NAV paths.
Does a step-up SIP give higher returns than a regular SIP?
Not as a rate of return. You usually finish with a larger corpus because you invested more rupees in later years. Compare invested totals, not just the ending corpus.
What step-up should I choose — 5%, 10%, or more?
Match it to take-home growth you trust, often 5–10%. Look at the final monthly SIP in the results. If that debit would hurt, lower the percentage.
Can I use 0% step-up?
Yes. That is the regular SIP case. Both columns should match, which is a useful check that the comparison is clean.
Are the results guaranteed or inflation-adjusted?
Neither. The corpus is a nominal projection at a constant assumed return. Inflation, taxes, expenses, and real NAVs are not modelled.
Does this include ELSS, NPS, or PPF?
The maths is generic for a monthly contribution. ELSS lock-ins, NPS tiers, and PPF rates have extra rules this page does not apply. Read the scheme documents.
How are taxes treated?
They are not deducted in the table. Equity, hybrid, and debt funds have different capital-gains rules that change. Verify current law or ask a qualified tax professional.
Is StepSip a SEBI-registered investment adviser?
No. StepSip is an educational calculator. It does not recommend funds, execute trades, or hold money.
Is my data uploaded?
Calculator inputs stay in your browser and can appear in the page URL if you share it. See the privacy policy. There is no account.
Can I change or stop a step-up later?
On most platforms, yes — edit or cancel the top-up or the SIP mandate. This site cannot do that for you.
Why is my broker’s number slightly different?
Conventions differ: beginning versus end of month, daily versus monthly compounding, or including the current month. StepSip states its method on the home page. Small gaps are normal.
